San Francisco's Punch Gallery played host
to Curious Creatures, a unique gallery show
focusing on the intersection between toy
design and contemporary art. Curated by
toy sculptor and man-about-town Brin Berliner,
Curious Creatures had a special focus on
the process - from the original concept
art through drawing and sculpting stages
and on to the finished product. Each contributor
exhibited their original art, including
one-off toys, original paintings, prototypes
and sculptures.
Curious Creatures had a strong hometown
feel, featuring some of the most notable
artists working in San Francisco today.
But the party was an open house, with special
guests from New York City, Houston, Los
Angeles, Fresno and beyond. The show's opening
night was packed all night and hopping with
a trio of DJs, drinks and its very own cardboard
robot b-boy.
